Stone crab season in Florida arrived on Friday and will continue through May 1.
Notice to lovers of stone crab claws: Even though the season started on Friday, seafood restaurants and markets had claws available on Saturday October 16th.
Why? As famous seafood restaurant and market Cod & Capers Seafood explains on the restaurant’s Facebook page: “Fishermen are allowed to start trapping at dawn on Friday. The claws must then be harvested, cooked, chilled, graded and transported.
