The Vancouver Fishing Company
The Vancouver Fishing Company (517 Anderson St) is located in one of the city’s top destinations for locals and tourists alike – i.e. Granville Island.
The restaurant has waterfront views and an expansive patio overlooking a bustling marina, making it the perfect place to grab a drink (or two) from the meticulously curated drinks menu on a sunny afternoon.
The exceptional gourmet menu has also been carefully curated to showcase the best seafood in town, with all fish sourced directly from local fishermen and the majority of seafood on the menu Ocean Wise Certified.
My recent favorites have been the sashimi-grade albacore tuna crudo with Calabrian chili, ponzu dressing, Castelvetrano olives, rice cracker; and black cod marinated in Kasu, mashed potatoes, roasted leeks and turnips, roasted tea dashi, shallot oil with ginger.
Located on Granville Island, The sandbank (1535 Johnston Street, Creekhouse #102) has been an integral part of the local dining scene since opening in 2000.
With two floors of dining space and 180-degree views of scenic Burrard Inlet, The Sandbar is a favorite with tourists and locals alike.
The kitchen serves an extensive menu of fresh and sustainable seafood dishes for brunch, lunch and dinner, which includes options for those with dietary restrictions.
The restaurant’s location has a history dating back to Prohibition when it was used as a front for rum runners traveling from Seattle in 1920.
I enjoyed their Happy Hour features including the Ahi Tuna Poke with Wonton Fries and the Thai Curry Mussels.
Blue water cafe
Located in a beautiful heritage brick and beam warehouse in the Yaletown neighborhood, Blue water cafe (1095 Hamilton St) is another excellent restaurant in Vancouver for seafood.
Their menu features sustainable seafood from Oceanwise as well as innovative and memorable dishes from the West Coast.
Sit at the Raw Bar and watch expert sushi chefs prepare dishes with pure, clean flavors and unique presentations.
The striking dining room offers an active view of the open kitchen and the Raw Bar.

Riley’s Fish and Steak

Go Fish Ocean Emporium (1505 W 1st Ave) is a charming open-air seafood shack just off Granville Island serving fish and chips, sandwiches, grilled seafood, sides and more to eat inside. outside or to take away.
They proudly support local fishers and farms and the seafood on their menu is Oceanwise certified.
During the summer months, this is a great place to sample seafood while taking in stunning views of the False Creek waterfront.
My usual order is the ahi tuna and salmon tacones.

As one of the best seafood restaurants in downtown Vancouver, Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar (845 Burrard St) offers a menu grounded in classic technique and training, artfully infused with West Coast flair and international influences.
The Boulevard’s culinary team is led by chefs Alex Chen and Roger Ma who won the Canadian Culinary Championship crown, in 2020 and 2018 respectively.
Boulevard features a magnificent main dining room, signature booths, an elegant patio, a lively bar and elegant private dining spaces.
You will find exceptional service and an extensive selection of wines and cocktails.
Located along Burrard Inlet, next to Vancouver Canada Place landmark, miku (200 Granville St #70) offers gourmet Aburi cuisine (flame-cooked sushi) in a sophisticated setting with a terrace and water views.
Miku’s owner, Seigo Nakamura, innovated the Aburi concept by designing special sauces using non-traditional Japanese ingredients to accompany each type of fish.
The light burn of binchotan (also known as Japanese bamboo charcoal) caramelizes the sauce, releasing a smoky aroma and bringing out the best natural flavors and textures in each piece of Aburi sushi.
Try the Aburi Chirashi Pie which features layers of sushi rice, spicy tuna, avocado, sockeye salmon and Miku sauce. n It is flame-seared and topped with shrimp, scallops, maguro, tobiko and ikura.
Located in the Yaletown neighborhood, Minami (1118 Mainland St) is Miku’s sister restaurant (pictured above).
Minami also specializes in Aburi cuisine where each piece of sushi is seared over a flame using a blowtorch, resulting in sushi with a smoky flavor and a texture that melts in your mouth.
The menu features seasonal and local ingredients and is inspired by the diverse flavors of Vancouver.
Check out their specialty rolls like the champagne roll which contains Hokkaido scallops, sockeye salmon, cucumber and rolled in golden tobiko sauce.
Don’t miss their Aburi Oshi sushi menu (also available at Miku). They have Aburi Oshi sushi with salmon, ebi (shrimp) or saba (mackerel) or choose the Oshi Sampler which has two pieces of each variety.
Papi’s Seafood and Oyster Bar

Dynasty Seafood Restaurant (108-777 W Broadway) having won numerous awards for their Cantonese-style dim sum and seafood dishes.
One of their signature dishes is the Spicy Garlic Dungeness Crab, which is a tower of sticky rice, crab legs, crab bodies, and crispy noodles piled on top of each other.
