Man bitten by alligator near Manatee Lake Fishing Camp: FWC

MYAKKA CITY, FL – A Sarasota man was seriously injured after being bitten by an alligator Wednesday afternoon near Lake Manatee Fish Camp in Myakka City, authorities said.

Eric Merda, 43, was bitten on the arm around 5:30 p.m. and taken to the hospital for treatment, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation said in a news release.

The FWC, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Manatee County EMS all responded to the scene.

A nuisance alligator trapper hired by the FWC was dispatched to the area where the alligator attack occurred, the agency said. The incident is under investigation.
