Seafood restaurants to try in South Africa

Fish and seafood lovers in South Africa are spoiled for choice, with restaurants to suit all budgets dotted around every corner of the country.

No-frills fish and chips, exquisite shellfish and locally sourced oysters in this perfectly grilled catch of the day; we’ve listed some of our favorite fish and seafood hot spots in Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg.

Eldorado (Durban)

Eldorado is best described as a home away from home, the neighborhood’s favorite seafood shack with simple rustic retro decor for everyone. It’s a beautiful, simple atmosphere where you can enjoy a good plate of fish, shrimp and squid.

Open during containment, their menu is based on the Portuguese and Mozambican mergers. The owner wanted to create a deeply rooted and meaningful concept for anyone who enjoys seafood and chicken. With their varied selection of spices, their food flavor is second to none as it involves how grannies prepare chicken in terms of marinating and grilling, and all of their fresh vegetable products come from small farmers.

Baia seafood restaurant (Cape Town)

Since opening its doors in 2001, Baía’s reputation has spread far and wide as a sophisticated landmark for fine dining and wine in Cape Town.

Enjoying a privileged location on the Victoria Quay, the Baía enjoys spectacular panoramic views of the harbor and the ocean. It has a cocktail bar, indoor dining areas and covered outdoor dining areas spread over four terraces.

Baía specializes in the best seafood from all over Southern Africa, the best poultry, beef and game, as well as a renowned wine list with rare Cape wines and a selection of imported liquors. It has earned a reputation as the perfect place to savor the best seafood platter in Cape Town.

Their menu is inspired by a combination of fine continental cuisine and Portuguese colonial traditions. One of the house’s legendary specialties seduces guests with a Portuguese-influenced cataplana, a real feast of shrimp, langoustines, mussels, squid and line fish.

From Bistro Vine to Believe Eatery. Parkhurst’s Bistro Vine closed its doors during the Covid-19 pandemic, one of the many casualties. Now they are back under a new name with a new vibe and in a new neighborhood, with the same chefs, same waiters and great food with new additions of course.

The restaurant at the Real Mackay building in Blairgowrie is their new home and they invite you to come and experience their new offering. With the same attention to the quality and provenance of the ingredients, they serve healthy and relaxed dishes in a relaxed environment. A large open space with exterior and interior seating built off the road for added safety and security. You can also watch the chefs in their fully open kitchen, whip up a storm.
