JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFRV) – When you think of Florida, you think of the sun, beaches, and lots of seafood. You also think of alligators. This is the scene where the Packers and Saints will play the 2021 NFL regular season opener. The game should have been held in New Orleans but was moved due to damage from Hurricane Ida.
Fishing camps are a must-see in Jacksonville, providing an array of fresh seafood to the community. Julington has a wide variety of dishes, including the fried alligator, but one of their bestsellers is the shrimp and grits, made with a white wine butter sauce and local shrimp.
“We want to be able to give people a taste of the seafood from the region. And the white wine sauce helps make the oatmeal so creamy, it’s a fan favorite, ”said the operations manager of Southern Table Hospitality, owner of Julington Creek Fish Camp.
The fishing camp was packed, filled with happy and hungry customers. You could hear the clinking of glasses as people clapped in the hot summer air.
I will say this. I ate shrimp and oatmeal in New Orleans. It is to die for there. But that shrimp and that oatmeal? Absolutely phenomenal. They were so creamy, the shrimp perfectly cooked and the wonderful smoky flavor that shone through was just perfect.
We’re just getting started with What’s to Eat, and Jacksonville started it the right way.
